The Kansas City Chiefs are a fun team.
Not only do they have star power everywhere, but the players, coaching staff and front office personnel have some of the best personalities in the league.
It’s hard to figure out who stands out the most among all the on-field prowess and off-field personality. There’s one player, however, that certainly flies under the radar when it comes to having a good time.
And that’s Chiefs defensive lineman Chris Jones.
Jones is a party anytime he takes the podium. He always has good answers and is always willing to be upfront and honest when asked the tough questions.
But, obviously, it’s Jones’ on-field play that brings in the most amount of attention. Jones is a monster on the field and his career-high 15.5 sacks and 29 QB hits in 2022 proved as much.
Jones is only 28-years-old, so he has plenty of gas left in the tank. But, the same can’t be said for his contract status.
2023 is the final year of Jones’ contract and he’s set to become an unrestricted free agent in 2024.
In other words: Jones needs a new deal. Or an extension, at least.
Can the Chiefs give him one, though? They currently have around $14.3 million in cap space. It’s practically a guarantee an extension would lower Jones’ 2023 cap hit, which makes an extension very realistic.
But, it’s never guaranteed.
However, according to Jones, he’s a Chief for life and he won’t play for another franchise.

The key here is Jones said he won’t play for another franchise. Players can move on from franchises and still consider themselves “x-team member for life”, but play elsewhere.
That’s not going to be Jones, though, based off his own words.
Now, it’s just about finding out how permanent those words are.
