There is one thing that Patrick Mahomes did in the 2022 season that should not only help him when talking about the best player in the league, but it should almost seal the deal when it comes to MVP talk.
For some reason, no one thinks about the player off of the field when it comes to the MVP race and just the best overall player. No one seems to think that marketability has any effect on how good a player is.
But, the more marketable you are, it’s likely you are better than the guys below you, if that makes sense.
Patrick Mahomes is one of the most marketable guys in the league, and it should be a category of its own. There is a reason the NFL posts the results of jersey sales every year.
And, it just so happens that Mahomes is in the top three for jersey sales in one of the smallest sports market cities in the country. How does that work? Well, because his play does the talking.
His play makes him marketable, one of the most marketable guys in the league.
Mahomes finished third in jersey sales, behind only Josh Allen on the Buffalo Bills and Micah Parsons on the Dallas Cowboys.

Does this mean Mahomes is guaranteed an MVP? No. But, I do think it is interesting, especially when you factor in how much attention the payers are grabbing for how small their market is. That means their good play isn’t going unnoticed.
