ESPN’s Dan Orlovsky, a former NFL player turned analyst, made quite the statement about Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow on Monday.
During an appearance on ESPN on Monday morning, Orlovsky said he thinks Burrow is the best quarterback in the NFL right now.
“Joe Burrow’s the best quarterback in football,” said Orvlosky.
“Chiefs fans, Patrick [Mahomes] is the best player. Patrick is the most talented quarterback that’s ever stepped foot on an NFL field. But when it comes to quarterbacking and understanding defenses, and understanding play calls and how to attack defenses, the timing — Joe’s the best.”
“He’s the best going right now when it comes to all the things that we could write down about what it takes to play quarterback at a high level. He does it all exceptionally well. And he’s the guy that really is the model for what quarterbacks should be in the future.”
“Joe does all the things that you sit there and go, ‘oh I know how he does all that stuff’, but he’s the only one who does it,” added Orvlosky. “He’s the only one that does all of that stuff.”
I’m sure Chiefs and Bills fans won’t love hearing these comments from Orvlosky, but I’m not sure how anyone could disagree with him.
Burrow took the Bengals from a dark place where the playoffs weren’t even a thought to being an annual Super Bowl contender.
And he did it almost immediately after entering the league.
Here’s the best part, though — Burrow has played in six postseason games and he’s 5-1. He’s never lost to an AFC team in the playoffs.
And he’s 3-0 against Mahomes. The only other quarterback in the NFL with three wins against Mahomes is Tom Brady (and Brady has played him six times).
Burrow might not make all the flashy plays like Mahomes and maybe he’s not going to rush for 100 yards in a game, but it’s hard to argue that he’s not the best pure quarterback in the NFL right now. And he’s proving it on a weekly basis.
Opposing fans might not like it, but the proof is all right there.
