Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow emerged as the NFL’s latest superstar last season thanks in part to Cincy’s surprising Super Bowl run (which ended with a loss to the Los Angeles Rams in Super Bowl LVI).
One of the ways Burrow stays grounded is playing Xbox Live with his buddies from high school and college.
In a world where most folks know Burrow as an NFL superstar, his Xbox friends just know him as Joe.
Burrow typically spends Monday evenings (after reviewing film from the previous game) playing Xbox games like Star Wars Battlefront II or Grand Theft Auto V.
“That’s what I look forward to during the season,” said Joe Burrow recently to Sports Illustrated. “Get in on Monday, watch the film, then get away from football a little bit. Hang out with those guys.”
Unfortunately for Joe Burrow, he’s going to have to skip a couple of Xbox Live nights this season and it’s all because of his superstar status.
The Cincinnati Bengals are set to play five primetime games in 2022 — including two on Monday nights (10/31 on the road against the Cleveland Browns and 1/02 at home against the Buffalo Bills).
The big question is whether or not Burrow puts off Xbox Live night until Tuesday those weeks or if his buddies go ahead without him (you’d think they’d be watching Burrow play, but they’ve seen “Joe” play a lot over the years).
From a football standpoint, it’s good that Burrow has a way to get away from football. We know he’s consumed by the sport. Most of his time is devoted to training, studying the playbook, or breaking down film. Having an outlet away from the NFL is a healthy thing for Burrow.
And I think he’ll be just fine having to skip Xbox night a couple of times this season.
