The New York Jets took a major step towards landing longtime Packers quarterback Aaron Rodgers this week.
On Tuesday, Jets brass including owner Woody Johnson, GM Joe Douglas, head coach Robert Saleh and offensive coordinator Nathaniel Hackett flew out to visit Rodgers to continue conversations from the day prior.
Now two days later, one NFL reporter is claiming that the meeting left the New York franchise feeling optimistic.
ESPN’s Dianna Russini reported Thursday that owner Woody Johnson “left the meeting excited and satisfied about the potential match.”
“There’s optimism in the Jets’ organization that they are on the brink of landing the future Hall of Fame QB,” Russini tweeted this morning.

Russini also noted that the Packers and Jets remain engaged in talks about compensation and contract in regards to Rodgers.
“As the Jets internally are working under an optimism that this will happen, the Jets and the Packers remain engaged in conversations about compensation and contract, sources said. Those conversation already started before the meeting,” Russini shared.
As far as potential trade packages are concerned, ESPN’s Rich Cimini predicted what the Jets may be willing to pay for Rodgers on Wednesday.
“…A prediction: IF trade happens, I say #Jets give up 2023 2nd rounder + conditional 2024 3rd rounder (can improve based on indiv/team performance). Don’t see them trading ’23 1st rounder (13th). Comp could be tied to how much contract they take on,” Cimini tweeted.

Rodgers is still yet to make a decision on his playing status in 2023.
But if he does decide to suit up for at least one more season, it seems there’s optimism in New York circles that he could be wearing a different shade of green this fall.
