The New Orleans Saints are clearly intrigued by Las Vegas Raiders quarterback Derek Carr.
They are hosting him on a visit today. The Raiders are looking to trade the veteran QB, but it may be more difficult than some believe due to his expensive contract.
That being said, we all know that the Saints have proven that they can find ways to manipulate contracts in order to remain complaint with the salary cap. If they want Carr and end up having to trade for him, they will make it happen.
Carr has been a bit of a mixed bag so far in his career. At times, he’s looked like a top ten QB in the NFL. On the other hand, injuries and inconsistencies have put a damper on his career at times.
That’s been clear in the past couple of seasons, especially. Could a change of scenery help Carr in a massive way?
Only time will tell, but the Saints make a lot of sense for the veteran quarterback for one major reason.
Carr found the most success in his career in a Saints-type of offense under head coach Jon Gruden.
Gruden ran a very similar style/scheme to what New Orleans has done for years. The talent around Carr would probably be better currently in New Orleans than it was then with the Raiders.
In 2020 under Gruden, Carr put up a 84.7 player grade, according to Pro Football Focus.
That’s an impressive number.

For fans, this is great news as Carr was the most consistent when running an offense that shows many similarities to the current Saints offense.

Of course, that scheme needs to be ran in a more effective manner. That would be Carr’s task in New Orleans.
If the Saints decide to make the move, it is yet another sign that the team is trying to continue to compete right now.
