There’s been a lot of “bulletin board” material flying back and forth this week between the Kansas City Chiefs and the Cincinnati Bengals, but none of that is coming from KC quarterback Patrick Mahomes.
Mahomes, much like Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow, leaves the trash-talking to his teammates.
In fact, Mahomes is doing the exact opposite this week.
The superstar quarterback was asked about the Bengals’ defense on Thursday and he was beyond complimentary.
“They change coverages a lot,” said Mahomes. “It never seems like you can get a real good feel for what they’re in. They like to just keep throwing different pitches at you and that’s what makes them such a great team. And that’s what’s going to make it such a great game.”
“We have a lot of great offensive minds on our side on offense and we’re going to try to throw different pitches at them. And they’ll do the same to us with all their defensive coaches and defensive players they have. It becomes a great matchup between two great teams and that’s what you want in the AFC Championship.”
Bengals defensive coordinator Lou Anarumo is known as the “mad scientist” because of the way he’s able to disguise coverages and come up with unique game plans each week.
We saw a great example of this last week in Cincinnati’s win against the Buffalo Bills.
the bengals were sending their DBs from some crazy depths and i don’t think allen saw a single one coming.

Mahomes, even when he’s not 100 percent, is a nightmare for defensive coordinators.
Anarumo, however, will have some new defensive looks for Mahomes. It should be a great chess match between the two best teams in the AFC.
